'The Con of CB17212', 2013
When an artist is exhibiting, a part of them is exposed to the criticism of the viewers and the work is turned inside-out. I decided to turn the Beechwood inside-out by gaining access to the blueprints and learning all of its nooks, crannies, and imperfections. I then drew the floor plan onto a slice of wood as a remark on the consumerist purpose of the building; contributing to the world’s mass consumption that our society ‘cons’ us into thinking is needed. Then by revealing the wood cut to the viewers I turned the act of exhibiting inside-out, as the artist now showcases the gallery, and the spectators will continue to turn it inside-out through their criticism and opinions.
